Green Eggs and Ham

I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam I am.

A few days ago while waiting in the doctor's office for a check up we entertained ourselves with a little light reading from the good old Dr. Seuss favorite, Green Eggs and Ham. Upon finishing the story my kids' first response was "Can you make us green eggs and ham?" Instantly I was transported back to kindergarten memories of making green eggs and ham for snack at school and then begging my mother to make it for me at home. Which she did, I think every day for something like two weeks until we ran out of green food coloring and she conveniently kept forgetting to buy more at the grocery store. With such fond memories rushing to mind it was pretty easy for the kiddos to talk me into buying some ham at the grocery store (even though it goes against all we are striving for in recent vegetarianism). And without much of a second thought I prepared them a breakfast filled with big chunks of meat and lots of healthy, green, food coloring. Just the kind of meal you want to feed your kids when you are striving to live and eat sustainably, simply, organically and meat free. Ah, but the excitement on their faces as they watched me stir and the eggs began to turn green, the eagerness with which they climbed up to the table, the joy with which they ate their breakfast, and the gratitude that is so rarely bestowed upon a meal that I cook was definitely worth it. Maybe, just maybe, those green eggs and ham will stick with them as long as mine did with me. And twenty years from now my grand kids will be eating some green eggs and ham.

Fun! :)

Hey- what happened to your walls? There's nothing on them. Did you take the kites down to fly them? :)
